Welcome to the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Osteology!
The Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Osteology (LBIO) was founded in 1991 through a partnership agreement between the Austrian Workers‘ Compensation Board (AUVA), the Vienna Health Insurance Fund (WGKK, now ÖGK) and the Ludwig Boltzmann Association (LBG) with laboratories at the Hanusch Hospital and the Trauma Centre Meidling.
Our aim is to improve patient care through advances in diagnosis and treatment of skeletal conditions, as well as through fracture prevention.
We believe in a bi-directional interaction between basic scientists and clinical researchers to address clinical needs. We strive to develop and maintain unique interdisciplinary approaches using state-of-the-art methodologies for the analysis of skeletal tissue to improve our understanding of disease and treatment.
Our research is an integral part of national and international centres of excellence for osteology and rare bone diseases.
The Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Osteology is a member of the Vienna Bone and Growth Centre and subsequently of the ERN-BOND for Rare Bone Diseases and, together with the 1st Medical Department of the Hanusch Hospital, is a DVO-certified Cooperation-Research Centre.
