Open Postdoctoral Position in Bone Spatial Genomics

A 2-year postdoctoral position (working full time, 40 hours per week) is available from October 2024 in a Ludwig Boltzmann Society (LBG)-funded project in the group of Judith Haschka, MD, and Reinhold G. Erben, MD, DVM, at the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Osteology in Vienna.

We have recently established mass spectrometry imaging-based spatial metabolomics in cryosections of undecalcified mouse bones (Buck et al, JCI Insight 7, 2022). The aim of the project is to further expand the armamentarium available to bone research and osteological diagnostics by establishing the workflow and the analytical technologies needed to perform spatial transcriptomics, untargeted spatial proteomics, and spatial metabolomics on cryosections of undecalcified bone samples. In addition, the project aims at linking spatial genomics technologies to bone material science, and to harness the power of these technologies to answer experimental and clinical questions in bone research. Our goal is to shape the future of bone biopsy.

The postdoctoral scientist will be working in a highly collaborative and productive interdisciplinary environment, with state-of-the-art infrastructure and excellent opportunities for international networking. Applicants should hold an MD, DVM, or PhD degree, and should have experience with bone biology and/or spatial omics techniques. The project involves bone cryohistology, the workflow associated with spatial transcriptomics, untargeted spatial proteomics, spatial metabolomics, together with histomorphometric and material science analysis.

Working language is English or German. Gross monthly salary is 4795 Euro (14× per year), 40 hours/week.
